Braves obtain Dessens

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Braves signed pitcher Elmer Dessens on Wednesday to a contract through the end of this season. He is expected to be added to the club's roster later this week. Dessens, 37, last pitched in the major leagues in 2007, when he split the year between Milwaukee and Colorado. In 17 games -- five starts -- he went 2-2 with a 7.15 ERA. He had been pitching with the Mexico City Red Devils of the Mexican League this year. In 20 games -- 19 starts -- he went 10-2 with a 4.03 ERA, and was 3-0 in the postseason. In 356 career MLB appearances, 140 of them starts, with Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Arizona, the Dodgers, Kansas City, the Brewers and Rockies, Dessens owns a 48-61 record with a 4.50 ERA.
