GOODBYE, SID
Source: ESPN
YEAH
YEAH
YEAH
IT'S FREAKING PHIL NEVIN BUT I DON'T CARE
ADIOS YOU FAT SON OF A SON OF A GUN
I DON'T KNOW WHO IS STARTING TONIGHT
OH MY GOD OUR LONG NATIONAL NIGHTMARE IS OVER
I said at the break that the day Ponson is no longer an Oriole should be celebrated with great gusto. Crack open your boxes of wine and get funky in the streets, because Sidney Ponson is a San Diego Padre and by God it's a celebration.
Share your thoughts. Share your feelings. Share your memories, because that's what they are - memories. Sidney Ponson is gone.
And according to ESPN's Rumor Central, we're now shifting our attention to Jeff Weaver instead of AJ Burnett. Fine. Fine. Sidney Ponson is gone. I cannot believe it.
Update: Nevin, of course, has a partial no-trade clause, and Baltimore is one of the teams on his list. Buster Olney on ESPNews just said the Padres could play hardball with Nevin here and tell him that with Randa acquired from the Reds along with this deal, Xavier Nady is going to play first base and Nevin will be squeezed out. This helps us. Us being in contention also helps us. Come on, Phil. Do us a favor. Help US to help YOU. You will love our park!

YES!!!!!
Vs Right: .263/.327/.443
vs. left: .306/.392/.566
So Nevin has proven through out his career that he can mash lefties. But we are paying him too much and he has too much of a track record to be simply used in a platoon with Raffy and face lefties every 5 days. He can also play 3rd base, but Melvin is there. He could also play outfield. I think they should have him play 1st when a leftie is on the mound and haing him either DH/OF any other day. That means either Gibbons or Sosa will lose some playign time.

Yeah, I have to hink this indicates it's dead
Other threads indicate that Burnett would not consider an extension. He's making a mistake. The boss has family in MD (Bowie, right?) and wanted to come back home. It looks like A.J. wants to go for the gusto in the free marke, and land in a foreign townt. This sounds like a rookie newlywed mistake to me.

I know
We're all willing to risk looking like asses to get rid of Sidney.
Padres just got Joe Randa from Cincinnati for two minor leaguers, too. San Diego isn't screwing around.
