Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

July 29, 2007

OK Folks, I've been doing some thinking...

Sunday July 29th, 2007 one Calvin Edwin Ripken Jr. will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. There will be masses of Orioles fans there to support him and it will be wonderful. But sadly, some of us can't make that trip for various reasons. However! We can still support Cal and do him proud by being somewhere else that day....Oriole Park at Camden Yards, where our Baltimore Orioles will be playing The Motherfucking New York Yankees. Are you OK with asshole Yankee fans taking over OUR park? On CAL's day? I'm sure as hell not.
My plan is this:
I am going to purchase group tickets for this game. The number of tix that I get will depend on how many of you want to come. I am also going to have people from Orioles Hangout (try not to get into a turf war), extended family from the Baltimore area and friends from Boston involved in this event(hopefully). Group rates will not be announced until next week, but I am going to shoot for upper box, which should be between $15 and $20 per seat. I will buy the seats on January 9th and then you jokers pay me for your seat(s). This a public forum and I kinda "know" only the regulars around here but...we'll figure it out.

SO, here's the breakdown. If you aren't going to Cooperstown that weekend, and you aren't getting married or attending your own funeral....YOU NEED TO BE AT THIS GAME. It is your moral obligation as an Orioles fan. So, if you want to do right by Cal and show your support for the O's that day...Let me know! Update [2007-1-8 22:26:19 by 2632]: I'm buying tickets tomorrow, so speak now or forever hold your peace.

Airtran
Round trip is just over $100...

not to sound snobby
but Airtran isn't my deal, wouldn't touch it.

I love Baltimore though, and if I could find a good deal on Expedia, I might do it.

Sounds like a great idea for my birthday, I'll let my girlfriend know hahahha

YOU SNOB
Just kidding...airtran does suck a little. But it sho is cheap! And none of the flights I've been on have crashed.

Just tell your GF I'm buying the group tix on January 9th...

compromise
drive/train to providence. southwest flies from providence to baltimore for about $100. and unlike Airtran (aka ValuJet), Southwest is a real, grown-up, major league airline.

exactly
And what about you, Mr. Knower? Going to Cooperstown? Or going to Camden Yards with the cool kids?

by 2632 on Dec 28, 2006 3:32 PM EST reply actions

hmmmm
good question. something about cooperstown does not really appeal to me. i guess i always feel like the hof weekend is way overhyped.

besides, hanging out in the Yards with the kool kidz from cc sounds like a lot more fun. particularly if cabrera will be pitching.

do i have until the ninth to tell you? you can likely count me in, but i'd want to discuss it with some peeps first....

Sweet!
Yeah, as long as you let me know before January 9th, it's cool.
I'll put you down for a "maybe".

Longest road trip to attend a sporting event?
I drove 12 hours from Oklahoma City to Atlanta with my friend who is a Braves fam to watch the O's play the Braves in interleague play two years ago.  Stopped by the Rendezvous BBQ in Memphis for a little lunch and made the Friday night and Saturday afternoon games before driving back home.

wow
This game will be the 3rd leg of a baseball roadtrip for me and my best friend, but it's not as long as yours. We're doing Mets vs. Gnats at Shea on Friday and Pirates at Phillies on Saturday.

I'm only 50 mins from the Yards...
so count me and the spouse in.
That was a game I had planned on going to anyway, but I'd much rather spend it with the CC gang than my usual Eutaw Street denizens. Long as I hit Boog's  for a sandwich before I sit, I'm cool.
Sounds like a blast...Cooperstown sux for induction.
Was there for Brooks and Palmer, and hit was hotter than hell both times...no hotels for MILES...

BTW,
Elktonfan, I'm extra excited to have you along for this adventure because your background with anmals like chimps and such will surely come in handy dealing with the Yankee fans. No offense to the chimps intended.

Actually, our chimps are better behaved
than most Yankees fans!
They at least wear diapers so they can't fling their poo! But, they do hate those Skanks quite a bit...
Cases in Point...
Our older guy, Mikey, stole Denzel Washington's Yankees hat from him when we were shooting Manchurian Candidate a couple years ago and ripped the brim..and our little guy Louie had to wear a Mariano Rivera jersey for the "Stump the Schwab" finale this year. When Howie and he had a tussle near the beginning of the show..it was all an act by the way...Louie got excited and crapped all over his new Rivera jersey in the back...and then ESPN didn't want it back!!!
So now I actually have a kids size Rivera jersey in our costume collection..hopefully we'll never need it again!
