Too bad YOU didn't watch tonight's game

Daniel Cabrera pitched tonight, and if you didn't see it, then you missed something. Cabrera threw 8 1/3 innings of no-hit ball before a Robinson Cano single, then got Bobby Abreu to ground into a 6-3 double play to end it, with the O's winning 7-1.

Cabrera's line: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K

If it weren't for three errors and a couple of passed balls, maybe Cano never comes to bat. But then, what are you going to do with a one-hitter? Bitch and complain? I'll pass. Great game tonight from Cabrera, who looked more relaxed and smooth than I've ever seen him look. I've honestly seem him look more dominant, but never that completely in control. Ramon Hernandez homered twice and Miguel Tejada reached 100 RBI.

In other news, Pedro Martinez is going to miss the entire postseason, which is a real blow to the Mets (obviously), and Frank Robinson is probably not going to be back with the Expos next season. Frank's had very little to work with over there and done a pretty decent job, I think. I don't always agree with his game decisions, but whatever. He took over a team that had no owner and that no one wanted to manage and led them to two straight 83-win seasons, and finished 81-81 last year, even though that came with a collapse after a 50-31 start. He's done as well as anyone could have hoped. That team had been abandoned and he got something good out of them for three of his five years. I would not be surprised to see Frank manage somewhere else.

Houston won again today. St. Louis is losing again. Now this is happening.

Tim Salmon is retiring. Hell of a career for him. One of the most underrated players of his generation. Maybe the most, actually. The man could hit. Along with Erstad and Garret Anderson, I think he's also one of only three guys to play for the California Angels, Anaheim Angels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

But Danny C, man. Tonight was his night.

Wow
That was a real thrill! I was on the edge of my seat for this one. I just wish Jim Palmer could have found it in his heart to SHUT THE HELL UP!!!

The one thing you never do in baseball is talk about a no hitter. But he couldn't flap his gums about it fast enough.

Oh what a night....
Yeah, Berman wouldn't shut up on ESPN, either.

Great picture of Danny Cabs, SC.

Oh Danny,
I comandeered my friend's TV for the last 3 innings tonight (I have no cable at the moment). Thanks for giving me an Orioles game to really get excited about. I haven't lived and breathed with every pitch like that in a long time. Thanks, man. It was fun.

Also, I'll be sure to give your infielders shit for all the errors tomorrow night at Fenway. Don't you worry, they'll hear about it.

All my Love,
Marianne

Jim Hunter
Jim Hunter was worse than Palmer. I hate Hunter. At least Palmer was a good pitcher once. Jim Hunter is just a moron.

Also, anyone who committed an error in this game probably isn't sleeping well tonight. As well they shouldn't.

Too bad about Pedro. I'd like to see the NL win, just because i hate the yanks. Only AL team I'd actually like to see win is the A's, just so I can stop hearing how Moneyball is overrated.

It's been proven
Earl Weaver proved Moneyball works before they called it Moneyball.

Cabrera The Great!
I agree. this is not only the best game I ever saw Cabrera pitch, but the most mound presents he's had during the games I've watched. Only on two pitches did I see him revert back to the old Cabrera and hump up and try to throw the ball through the catcher.
But I gotta say this. Even after the glasses thingy, I don't trust head case pitchers who have lots of potential anymore. I just can't get fucked up head cases like Jason Johnson and Sidney Ponson and all the years I wasted watching those two fucks, out of my mind.
I thought it happier to be dead / to die for a World Series victory, than live for mediocerity.

to be fair to Cabrera
Neither of those two bums had anything approaching Cabrera's stuff.

Also
Cabrera has shown nothing that makes me believe he's a jackass. In every interview I've heard, he seems focused on trying to get better. That's a far cry from Sid.

I was watching ESPN with Berman's constant drumbeat. In contrast, Orel Hershiser actually provided some good commentary. At one point he was talking about the challenges a tall pitcher faces and how Danny's delivery had become more compact in an effort to reduce the magnifying effects of being slightly off.

I like his
new approach, stop trying to throw 101 and just get it in their at 94 maybe top out at 97. It seems to be working alot better, and the glasses to.

good guy
From everything I've heard he's actually a somewhat shy,  softspoken,  very nice guy who sometimes can't handle the pressure. Ponson and Johnson were both kind of jersk. Sid because he was fat and lazy and Jason because he ws prickly and hard to get along with.

D-Cab seems like a nice guy. Jim Hunter always says he is. And we all trust Hunter a lot, after all.

Danny Boy!
It was on in the bar, but I didn't even realize it was a no hitter until the bottom of the eighth.

Even more impressive that it was against that shitball team from NY.  Nice way to end the season for him, hopefully some confidence carries over til spring training.  Must be the glasses.

momma take a look now at what your boy has done; he's walking around like he's number one; he went downtown and bought him a gun.
