LAST CALL: 2007 CC.com MLB Awards

FILL OUT A BALLOT. SEND IT IN. DO IT, AULD MAID.

I meant to get to this earlier, but didn't. Anyway, let's rock and roll.

I've decided to rename the awards to give them more of a CC.com flavor. Our past winners:

Cal Ripken, Jr./Brooks Robinson Award (MVP)
2006: Joe Mauer - MIN (AL), Albert Pujols - STL (NL)
2005: Alex Rodriguez - NYY (AL), Albert Pujols - STL (NL)

Jim Palmer Award (Cy Young)
2006: Johan Santana - MIN (AL), Brandon Webb - ARI (NL)
2005: Johan Santana - MIN (AL), Roger Clemens - HOU (NL)

Gregg Olson Award (Rookie of the Year)
2006: Justin Verlander - DET (AL), Ryan Zimmeran - WAS (NL)
2005: Huston Street - OAK (AL), Ryan Howard - PHI (NL)

Earl Weaver Award (Manager)
2006: Jim Leyland - DET (AL), Joe Girardi - FLA (NL)
2005: Ozzie Guillen - CWS (AL), Bobby Cox - ATL (NL)

I'm not gonna tell you how to vote, but fill out every blank. An entry like "Nick Markakis, Orioles" will do just fine.

Just copy and paste the ballot (located under the Read More... link) and email it to sachrist@gmail.com -- simple as that.

I'll start posting stuff once I've decided there are enough ballots in.

Update [2007-10-31 12:45:32 by duck]: Bumped so everyone gets a chance to vote. -duck

Question
Do we consider post-season play, or only regular season? (Or does that fall under "I'm not gonna tell you how to vote"?)

Oops...
....my bad.  I didn't read the "email to" part of this.

I guess I just shot the whole "secret ballot" thing to hell, huh?

NL Rookies
Obviously the AL is the varsity league right now, but picking my Rookie of the Year candidates led to the surprising discovery that this year had a lot more promising-looking rookies.

As far as I'm concerned Justin Pedroia was the hands-down AL ROY, but as far as I'm concerned all three of my NL ROY candidates (Troy Tulowitzki, Ryan Braun, and Hunter Pence) all had better seasons than Pedroia.

It's a super-small sample, but maybe the NL is on the rebound.

Do you really think
his name is Justin, or is this some kind of weird "joke"?

That's what we in the business call a typo
I wrote that at about 1:00 in the morning and was a little sleepy.

Are you kidding?

Oh, wait, I do have one: The annual League o' Losers award goes to...may I have the envelope please...[drum roll]...Oh my God, it's the National League! Again!

Accepting the award in the absence of the National League Office, which he abolished, is Pretend Commissioner Bud Lite:

"OK, look, I'm as embarrassed as you are, all right? Hey, I'm a National League owner fer crissakes! I mean, check that, I, er, have certain sympathies with the NL, that's all. Anyway, #### you very much for this damned 'award.' Again. And, no, dammit, I'm not going to do anything about making the NPL, I mean the NL, more competititve. Let the other owners worry about that. I mean, you know, the owners. Oh sh#t, I'm really blowing this thing, aren't I? What am I even doing here? Can't I have a DH Commissioner or something? Whoops, damn, now I've really said a bad word."

Save the O's Telethon, Petey speaking. Yes ma'am, very recently-- and he said I was "within acceptable limits." Yes, of *course* he was a real psychiatrist!

re:
player  era   qs%  ip   whip  baa   ops
  A     3.06  81   199  1.21  .248  .661
  B     3.27  67   189  1.14  .245  .663
  C     3.21  74   238  1.14  .259  .684
  D     3.01  73   219  1.21  .254  .680

I just picked some (mostly random) players who have the highest number of wins. Is one clearly the best pitcher in baseball, or have you guys also factored in the World Series (as will the writers)?
