oh, snap!

the angels angels of anaheim just traded orlando cabrera for jon garland.  miggi plus cash for ervin santana and [blank]?  i see it coming...do you?  (and while we scarcely need another young and quirky pitcher, i think ervin santana has already had more success than cabrera and seemed to pull it together by the end of the year last year)

what are you made of mr. mcphail?

update (zk): Here's a link with the same idea being floated:

In a move that could portend a bigger deal, the Angels today traded Gold Glove-winning shortstop Orlando Cabrera and cash to the Chicago White Sox for veteran right-hander Jon Garland.

The Angels' rotation appeared set with John Lackey, Kelvim Escobar, Jered Weaver, Joe Saunders and Ervin Santana.

But the addition of Garland, a 28-year-old who went 10-13 with a 4.23 earned run average last season, gives the Angels a rotation surplus that will enable them to deal a young pitcher such as Santana, Weaver or Saunders for a slugger such as Florida third baseman Miguel Cabrera or Baltimore shortstop Miguel Tejada.

[ed note #2: Mike Lowell has agreed to a deal with the Red Sox, according to sources. 3 years, $37.5M. Miggy's stock rises a little further...]

NOOOOOO
Ervin Santana is the last player we need to trade for.  How about young, cheap relievers and corner infield prospects.  If it has to be pitching, go for multiple lower-grade prospects.  Ervin Santana terrifies me -- look at his road/home splits, add on his general unreliability, and please god no, don't put him on the O's.

dude...
i didn't realize those splits were so fugly for his whole career.  their park isn't really a pitchers park per se, though, is it?

Santana is terrible
Please no. Look at his FIP and xFIP. His K/BB ratio is barely acceptable for a major league starter, if at all. Of course, Danny Cabrera is even worse on both counts. We must get better than Santana for Miggy.

Santana No
Brandon Wood Yes

Yeah
Wood could be a reasonable part of a deal, but I have no interest in any of those surplus starting pitchers and that's who the Angels seem to be shopping.

except for weaver...
man, whoever was complaining about k rates on santana, don't even bother looking at joe saunders or dustin mosely.  dios mio!  i'd take jered weaver, though.

Woods would be good, but
I think LAD could offer more then what LAA has. Same with MIN their young Pitchers always shine! I don't know if they need a SS or 3b but a Mora and Miggy trade to Min for some young guns would be fine.

i imagine...
that any trade w/ min would have to entail the o's eating significant salary (which is definitely going to be the case to unload melmo, anyways).

Random
I saw a little snippet the other day on ESPN.com saying "Tejada to the Giants?". Anyone else see that by chance? I am not an insider subscriber so I couldn't read the detail. Probably not missing much anyway.......
Ahh, well, you know. Its a team effort and I guess it took every player working together to lose this one. - Doug Remer

Bedard to dodgers
O's are talking to LAD and trying to get Kemp?  This is outrageous!  Do not trade Bedard, but if you do, you HAVE to get a lot more.  Right?

Kemp is the centerpeice
I think as long as we get another 2 hi prospects that's a good deal for us. Bedard is done in 3 years (like Woods is done).

Bedard for Kemp,Kershaw(yea right) and Dejesus
Tejeda and cash for Garret Jones and Slowely

The Angels have 2 good SS prospects
not even counting Wood. I doubt they'd take Tejada as an SS.
