I think everyone knows about Athletics Nation. Those people are crazy. I mean that in a nice way.
Pretty sure that Jon Knott is going to win Manto of the Week as he has 69% (baha, a funny number) of the vote thus far.
This year's BP touched on the subject, too, but, like, for real: Harden gets all the press as the potential next big stud in the A's rotation, but it's Haren who's been out there throwing 200+ innings a year and making them count. Beane really burned St. Louis with the Mulder trade, which, of course, everyone could see coming. Haren was already as good as Mulder when the trade went through, let alone Kiko Calero and Daric Barton. Stupid Cardinals. What do they have? A World Series!
I know I pick on Sam a lot, but this quote kind of tickled me: "We've got to win as many we can and ride it as long as we can." As in, "Oh, God, we're not REALLY good. I mean, we're the Orioles! Just, just, just win as many as you can right now, OK, maybe that way I can keep my job."
I get what he's saying, but it reeks of a lack of confidence that any of this has actually happened, like we're all actually not alive and we're ghosts rooting for a phantom team. Wouldn't it be depressing if the phantom Orioles of your wildest imagination could only start 11-7?
Miggi stinks against his former team: .250/.315/.298 with 0 home runs in 23 games. Doesn't quite match up to the .285/.366/.505 with 11 homers in 55 games that he put up against the O's before coming to Baltimore. While we've spent time worrying about Tejader, he's hit .338/.397/.423. I don't know that he'll ever hit 30 homers again (I'd put a few bones against it, in fact), but he's still going to be pretty good.
Of course, Millar is hitting .273/.414/.473 because Millar is pimpy. And Melly Mel, strangely, has found his power again -- and also, get this, his plate discipline is back. Markakis is a stud, and Aubrey Huff...starts slow in April, everyone be nice to Aubrey Huff. April's just a bad month for him so let's accept that he's killing us with runners on base and that sweet .537 OPS he's sporting over 34 ABs in said situation.
BUH DARD. I wish he'd walk less people.

paul bako's initials are pb. know what else that stands for? passed ball and dude has THREE so far!
corey patterson has a higher obp than brian roberts (who is also striking out a lot...maybe even at a higher rate than patterson).
bedard is also giveing up homers at a pretty high rate.

btw, Kevbo has 12 walks to 10 Ks. That's awesome. Kevbo is awesome. I knew he was doing well this year, but not this well. He should be batting third, probably. At least fifth. Or how about a 3-4-5 of Millar, Markakis, and Tejada? That way Millar gets more ABs and we go right-left-right.
I know, it'll never happen. Aubrey Huff is a #5 hitter, damn the numbers. Plus Tejada wouldn't like a "demotion."

So, how about....
Sure, I'm exaggerating - he's cost us to much money to have him clear out his locker just yet. A couple of more weeks, though...
Why is he still in this lineup 6 days a week? There is no rational answer.
RE:
I'm sure this is going to make you even more happy; with Payton back and Gibbons available to play; the O's have decided to sit one of our better hitters over the last year, Kevin Millar, and start Huff at 1B. Not to mention that Chris Gomez is actually hitting as of late and he too isn't in the lineup either. Although, I think its more of a fluke that Chris is actually producing.
I don't agree with giving Huff dramatically less playing time at this point; but to start him and sit Millar isn't the most logical decision to me at this point. Until one of them starts hitting, I don't see much of a point of playing both Gibbons and Huff; unless injuries demand it.

- OPACY. Beautiful place, just beautiful
- D-Cabs. It's nice to see a kid like that start to figue it out.

- I love me some Miggi. Miggi, Miggi, Miggi, Miggi, Miggi, Miggi. Got a jersey and everything. Love that Miggi.
- MarKICKASS! Great OF, and just the coolest nickname that anyone on this board ever came up with. And IIRC, abotu 3 people came up with it at the same time. I wasn't one of the three.
- Kiko Garcia. Just because.
- Brooks Robinson. Dude spoke at my LL banquet one year. In Fruitland, MD. GoogleMaps where that is, and you'll be impressed.
- Chris Ray. Don't be hatin' on Ray, people.
- Jamie Walker. "Mess with me, you're messin' with the whole trailer park."
- Jim Palmer. Just because I love listening to someone who is even more convinced than I am that he's the smartest guy in the room.

Yeah, there's a rule in HS wrestling where you lose the match if you take a total of 5 minutes during a match to stop bleeding. One of my kids won a match that way two years ago - kid took 6 timeouts and couldn't get his nose to stop bleeding.
That coach was a .....

Again, bad luck or terrible pitching?
Bedard was lights out for 3 of those innings. What happened in the other 1.2? Was he pitching that bad or did things break the wrong way? He had two pretty bad pitches for the HR and the near HR. It seemed like he lost his composure a bit after that, but all in all, there was a lot of bad luck involved.

I'm thinking Patterson missed the sign
squeeze play
Yup, I have to believe that Mora was NOT stupid enough to bunt for a single. Corey must have missed the sign. Correct me if I'm wrong, but on a safety squeeze, shouldn't the runner take off as soon as the pitcher goes into motion? And from what I saw on the replay, Corey didn't take off as soon as the pitcher went into motion. In the end though, I don't think it would have mattered. Street would have nailed Corey at the plate.

We lost becuase Bedard was again below par, and Baez gave up another homer late to Swisher.
5-0 holes don't get overcome every day..if the starters can't go deep, and have crappy outings, most of the time we lose. So does everyone.
If it hadn't been for Huff's homer, we wouldn't have made it a ball game.
Bad decisions, bad pitching, and poor execution always lose ball games.
