Sorry, no promises of free beer and boobies today. I have graduation for my high school tonight, so I have to actually get in a tie and suit and walk in with the rest of the faculty and generally act like an adult. Get yer free boobies n' beer somewhere else, guys. Tonight's all business.

Here's the scouting report, courtesy of MLB.com:

Scouting Report:

Orioles: Burres returned to the rotation on Saturday after missing his last scheduled start due to an off-day and pitched a and career-high six innings in a three-hit win over Oakland. He retired the first 10 A's to step to the plate, and Nick Swisher's solo home run in the fourth inning was the only run Burres allowed. His second win of the season was his best performance in three starts since replacing injured Adam Loewen in the starting rotation.

Angels: Using his wide assortment of pitches, including a killer splitter, Escobar tamed the Bronx Bombers on Saturday for seven innings, holding them to one earned run on six hits and one walk while striking out eight. Nearly unhittable in his previous outing at home against the Dodgers -- allowing no runs on three hits over eight innings -- Escobar now has a streak of 21 consecutive scoreless frames at Angel Stadium. He's 12-4 with nine saves and a 3.76 ERA in 33 career games against Baltimore.

Well, more as an excuse
as to why I can't offer free prizes. But my girl's a pretty decent writer and my son's a whiz with math, so make me a deal for their services...

Well, your son is way ahead of the curve, then, compared to Sam "I Am" Perlozzo.

Kid can calculate
how many hours are in 13 days. And walk you through the math. It's sick, I tell you. We're planning on financing his college with one good weekend of blackjack at casinos in the Caribbean after he turns 18.

ah, you're right...
this is a booball... um, baseball boob... blog.  Damn.  Less boobies and more j-Dub quotes, unless, of course, Kakes needs another kick in the trousers, then we can go back to boobies.

come on, now
we can compete...with little-league rejects

by jloving on May 31, 2007 4:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

My prediction...
Burres will outpitch Escobar, the Orioles reach .500, finish of the road trip with six more victories. The Sox get caught up in a HGH/prostitution scandal and are suspending from the league, giving the Orioles sole possession of first place.
Mark Texiera is traded to the Orioles for Danys Baez and Jay Gibbons, solidifying the line-up. Dan Haren is unexpectedly released from the A's, whereby the FO shrewdly snatches him up and inserts him into the rotation.
The O's win the American League Pennant only to lose the World Series to a resurgent Washington Nationals juggernaut.

by RobG on May 31, 2007 6:01 PM EDT   0 recs

My prediction...
The orioles will drop 2 of 3 while the Sox win 2 of 3.  The AL is too damn good for the orioles to contend, how long can these pitchers hold up for.

by Baltimo on May 31, 2007 6:18 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

We got...
We got a 4 game series here.  I would accept 3 of 4 in LAAofA, 2 of 3 up in Washington and get the hell back to the correct coast 2 games over 500.

I can dream.

Lets hope the Yanks can actually win 2 games this weekend.  God I hate saying that.

I'd be happy with
2 of 4 in Anaheim (thrilled to not lose 3 or 4 of 4), and 2 or 3 in Washington.

by BrianS on May 31, 2007 6:54 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Seriously
This team has a bad habit of following up a short winning streak with a losing streak...the last streak (4 in a row) was followed by losing 5 in a row (including that brutal game to the Sox and being swept by Tor).  2 of 4 is a realistic goal, especially since the Angels have been on a tear.

Don't rush back to work too soon.  I have decided that I will just stay in school forever and accumulate a million degrees.  Work is for chumps!

by PhilR8 on May 31, 2007 7:56 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

oh, its a summer internship
I still have another year before graduation. Then grad school. Believe me, I won't have a real job until I'm near 30, and even then I'll just be a college professor. I hope.

by pipkin on Jun 1, 2007 12:22 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

And I only have 6 more work days...
before I get to be a lazy bum all summer. It must be karma....

Then you'll be able to start
a serious campaign to take over the O's managerial duties...sweet.  Hire me as the 3rd base coach.  I'll take a cooler out to the coaching box every inning and have a windmill with hands set up so that it is continuously waving the runners home.

by goonybananas on May 31, 2007 10:07 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I've kinda got my heart set
on the 3B coaching job. I'm pushing for 2632 as manager. Pitching coach, perhaps?

I can take my cooler to the bullpen...
and hang out with Jamie Walker, Boy!

Sorry, Westcoastosfan.  No disrespect.  But 10:05 first pitches should be ILLEGAL.

boowhoooooo
4:05 start times should be illegal.

by westcoastOfan on May 31, 2007 9:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

This Burres guy...
it sure it interesting to see him get his shot starting over an extended period of time. It seems like the O's have more viable young guys who could than in recent years past. Plus that Steve Trachsel thing is neat, too. 18:31 K:BB and a 3.39 ERA. Just wow. Jaret Wright might not have a job when he comes back.

by NHZ on May 31, 2007 8:33 PM EDT   0 recs

Jaret Wright may not have a right arm...
literally...after the docs get finished with him.  Actually, that sounds pretty good.  Maybe we can pay the docs to make sure he doesn't come back - and then do that to Gibby too.  It will be like the O's version of Jack Kevorkian...except his patients won't be asking to be ended.

by goonybananas on May 31, 2007 8:54 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I would be shocked
if we won tonight or tomorrow night.  Escobar has been fucking nasty this season and so has Lackey.  We'll be lucky if we split this series.  We are not in Kansas (City) anymore.

Screw this
west coast baseball, im gonna have to stay up till 1:30 and wake up at 6:30.  Anaheim and Seattle and San Fran and all those california/west coast/central teams should be put in their own division, along with Hawaii and Alaska and whoever else wants to join.

by Baltimo on May 31, 2007 10:01 PM EDT   0 recs

Cool - we get all the little numbers
showing break and degrees dropped and stuff on Gameday on mlb.com/ I don't know what any of it means, but it looks cool and the O's usually don't get it.

Motherfucker
If there were a way to ground into more than one double play in an inning, these fucking Boz-O's would find it.  Nice one Ramon, and you too Aubrey, you non-getting-on-base piece of shit.

by Jonnypops on May 31, 2007 10:41 PM EDT   0 recs

why do we have to wait
for 2 outs to get on base again? Just get it over with, Miguel. Make your inning ending popup/groundout/K.

by 2632 on May 31, 2007 10:49 PM EDT   0 recs

Mr. Letdown!
What would a ballgame be without you?

by Jonnypops on May 31, 2007 10:52 PM EDT   0 recs

My only concern is
How long can this young pitching and tremendously outstanding defense hold up for, I think the team has been practicing grounders and pop-ups more often than taking BP.

by Baltimo on May 31, 2007 11:09 PM EDT   0 recs

fuck mlb.tv
alright, i'm bailing.  mlb.tv is acting up tonight for whatever reason.  my friend's band is playing tonight so i might as well check them out.  go o's!

corey
is crazy as a shithouse rat

by thewaywardO on May 31, 2007 11:28 PM EDT   0 recs

The only reason Patterson is in the lineup
Is because he is a really, really good centerfielder, can get infield hits, and can steal even though he doesn't utilize his speed because hes never on base.

by Baltimo on May 31, 2007 11:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

no doubt
don't get me wrong

i love the c pat

he's just lucky he's a CF otherwise he'd be on a park bench someplace

We now just have to find out how long the "boob effect" lasts, so we know when to apply more boobs.

by PhilR8 on May 31, 2007 11:30 PM EDT   0 recs

He better stay that way
For the O's to have any chance, somebody has to hit.
CAN ANGELOS!

by drj on May 31, 2007 11:42 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I don't know if its just me
But the Angels play the craziest baseball, ever.  They leave the gap completly wide open hugging the third base line, double steal, set up pickoff plays for a guy at third, and leave the middle open for Huff who can only get a single up the middle.  But they dictate the tempo and are always on the offensive, so I guess thats why theyre so good.

by Baltimo on May 31, 2007 11:31 PM EDT   0 recs

Shit list
Corey and Aubrey are on my shit list. Nicky is not.

by RobG on May 31, 2007 11:35 PM EDT   0 recs

Huff is a permanent resident
Corey comes and goes.  But yes, currently he is on the shit list.

by PhilR8 on May 31, 2007 11:46 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Just like that, Corey off the list
for at least a half an inning.  Nice play, Cor.

by PhilR8 on May 31, 2007 11:49 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

two walks and now vlad
makes me queasy.
CAN ANGELOS!

by drj on May 31, 2007 11:49 PM EDT   0 recs

That
Is why Patterson is kept in the lineup, with alot of other centerfielders, it would be 4-2 with a runner on third and the cleanup hitter up to bat with a shaken-up pitcher.

by Baltimo on May 31, 2007 11:49 PM EDT   0 recs

Whoa!!!
Baez?  Why-ez?

by Jonnypops on May 31, 2007 11:59 PM EDT   0 recs

Somebody
tell Perlozzo we have a lead right now and a well rested bullpen.  No need for Baez time.

by Jonnypops on Jun 1, 2007 12:01 AM EDT   0 recs

Baez
could not possibly be any worse

by jloving on Jun 1, 2007 12:01 AM EDT   0 recs

OMG
A walk and a single.  WTF is it going to take to teach fucking Perlozzo?

by Jonnypops on Jun 1, 2007 12:02 AM EDT   0 recs

Burres: 86 pitches
Why Baez?  Why not anyone else?  God dammit.  Baez can't find the fucking strike zone.  Kiss this game goodbye.

by PhilR8 on Jun 1, 2007 12:02 AM EDT   0 recs

Danys Baez
Needs to go to triple A to get his confidence back up, not a major league game against a good team on the road in the opener.
