Flanagan and Olney on Radio

Both appeared on the Anita Marks show today, here's a few tidbits:

FLANAGAN -

  1. Team flight was delayed to San Diego by the FO so they could meet with the players.
  2. There might be "other changes" made before the team gets to California.
  3. Mazzone was "disappointed" about his BFF getting fired, but will remain with the team because he loves the young pitching staff.
OLNEY -
  1. A "team of executives" will be meeting with Girardi tomorrow to offer him the job.
  2. MacPhail will be taking over baseball operations in earnest. Compared it to Sandy Alderson in San Diego. He reiterated that MacPhail would have operational control and Angelos would have a less hands on approach. He says there is no way MacPhail would have taken the job if this were not the situation.
  3. He doesn't think Mazzone will be here next season.
I couldn't actually listen to the show, I'm relaying this as a 3rd party.
Rumor has it the "changes" before they go to California will be minor league call ups.

Atleast our bullpen Coach is our temporary manager
The Bullpen has been so spectacular he deserves it.

I love it
I have to admit that made me laugh.

Rumored Changes
instilling Knott as regular DH would go a long way in giving this team a little more production in the short term.  he'll be 29 in August so he's probably not a long term solution, but he would help until they decide which direction to go in.  all this guy has ever done in the minors is hit home runs and drive runs in.  Millar and Gibbons are a waste of roster space going forward.

Millar might not be the best producer
but he's a very important clubhouse guy -- I wouldn't want to lose him.  Gibbons can go fuck himself, I've never liked him.

Plus...
even when he isn't hitting he is still getting on base.  Right?

Millar isn't the problem
Millar is the third most productive hitter on the Orioles roster.  The fact that Sammy didn't recognize this and put him in the everyday lineup is a big part of why he deserved to be fired.

I could care less about his clubhouse value (which seems fine), I like him because unlike everybody except Roberts, Tejada, and Markakis, has offensive value.

Train Wreck
This team is a much greater train wreck than I realized, and I knew already this team was screwed up.

How does one root for this team anymore?

Circle Jerk
What's with the Joe Girardi circle jerk around here? Look, no one will win with this bullpen and this offense. Not Sam Perlozzo, not Joe Girardi...NO ONE. Until we get better players...we're gonna stink. Period.

I agree, but . . .
Sammy lost more games than he should've because of his mismanagement of the pitching staff and insistence giving up as many of his outs as possible to the other team.

The O's suck, but Sammy made them lose more than their fair share.  The hope is that Girardi or Davey Johnson or whoever else will at least not do things to help the other team beat them.

I've said it before...
and I'll say it again.

RobG, you are too awesome for words.

this
is just plain frightening to me.  I'd rather her/him/it to just be headless.

Rob G!
Don't you guys have to sign a pledge or something about Using Your Powers Only for Good?

I mean, people have accused me of spoiling their breakfast. But making adults blow coffee through their noses is one thing; putting lines of adolescents in front of the counseling office at the local middle school is quite another. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Now that that's out of the way: awesome! Could you, like, maybe join forces with dayzd toe and make us some kind of moveable-parts graphic thing involving Katherine Heigl, Amber and a member of the animal kingdom?

Clean out the farm system
I'd like to see the MacPhail clean out the farm system as well.  The AAA and AA teams have a lot of guys in their mid and late 20's who aren't going to provide a whole lot to the big-league club.

That's a really good
and overlooked point.
