No Go for Joe? ESPNews says so!
Quick and dirty - ESPNews is breaking news that Joe Girardi has in fact TURNED DOWN the offer to manage the Orioles. More as it becomes available...
A Note from SC...: Ohhhh boy.
Update [2007-6-21 12:37:6 by duck]:Here's the link to the ESPN.com story.
From FOX Sports: From FOXSports.com
"It's a great organization. There's a great history. It's a great sports town," Girardi told FOXSports.com. "I had a great meeting with them. I was very impressed. But at this time, it's not just right."

Terrific

No Dusty Baker
Dusty would be perfect for this team
Whoops
But, on to more important things, like interviewing DAVEY FUCKING JOHNSON.
Same old, same old
Girardi, 42, likely is seeking a contract of at least three years with an annual salary of at least $1 million -- a deal that would be the largest ever given by the Orioles to a manager.
While a source close to the negotiations spoke of a potential "money snag" with Girardi, the Orioles might have little choice but to accede to his wishes.
So we lose our #1 target because Petey's being too cheap?
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss...
Rosenthal is a pinhead
Hence the sarcasm
I bet Girardi turned down the O's
ESPN.com 1st two grafs...
Girardi interviewed with the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday, and ESPN's Peter Gammons reported that the team offered him their vacant managerial job.
Link included in main story now.
Girardi turned down Baltimore?
What's wrong, Girardi?
You're not so tough.

Youngin'
Kruk-"Someone put this team together, and it wasn't the manager"
The pertinent details...
In any case, the Orioles should see improvement. Fired manager Sam Perlozzo is said to have lost the front office with his handling of the revamped bullpen and lost the clubhouse in recent weeks when he publicly challenged Daniel Cabrera to "be a man ... to go out and finish the game.'' And when he told Jay Gibbons "you're my guy'' before benching him a few hitless games later.

To be brutally honest...
A). He fulfills the MLB mandate to consider minority candidates.
B). He has managed before, so Peter Angelos can feel like he's going with a known quantity.
C). He has an Orioles background, so Peter can say he's bringing back The Orioles Way.
Again, I am NOT promoting the hire of Don Baylor. I'm just saying he's a lock to get interviewed now.
re:
How did they hope to get around that rule if they hired Girardi?

company policy
Do you really want to list the all the differences between the A's and the O's.
The A's are like the anti-orioles.
The A's are the O's of the 1970's
Oddly enough, the Orioles themselves have become the anti-Orioles, pre-1983 Orioles, that is.
well i guess the poll

Any opinion on Bobby Valentine?

What a great image you painted...
I would just rather Trembley stay on board and allow this team to completely crash and burn to the level where a full-scale rebuild is the only option (even to Angeblows).

Girardi and money? Back to Johnson!
I kind of fell for Johnson when he said he said the following:
"My kids were born in Baltimore, I grew up in the organization, I had the opportunity to come back and manage it. You know where your roots are, where your heart is and you want them to continue to be good."
Yeah, perhaps I'm a sap and Johnson was just saying the polite thing. But can you imagine Giradi giving a damn about Baltimore and brining back good baseball to a town that is starving for it? Joe is all bout Joe.
A bit off topic. This is the kind of statement that is lacking from the Warehouse. Most (all?) of their statements are wordsmithed bullshit that tend to reek insincerity.
Anyhow, a Johnson return could be a dud, but this is one time I wouldn't mind being a bit parochial in my outlook.
Two things scare me
1986 Earl Weaver
2004-Present Joe Gibbs
Who did that work out?
Gibbs
