Scott, I wasn't sure if you were gonna do this one - delete this if you like.
Here it is, the moment we've all been waiting for: The Triumphant Return of Our Conquering Hero...Rodrigo Lopez. This isn't about baseball! It's about Rodrigo LOPEZ!

You only had to look at my info page here
Also, I predict that Rodrigo swoops into Baltimore, shuts the Orioles down, gives the press a few excellent quotes, and just as quickly disappears from our lives forever.
RODRIGO
This was, of course, about the time that he started sucking, early in the 2005 season. My friends all blame me for ruining his career - I somehow sucked all of the talent from his arm just by shaking his hand. It is my fault that the Orioles ultimately tanked in '05.
I dismissed their accusations as voodoo and superstition. Until this season. In late March, I am ashamed to say that I sold Danys Baez a broadband card for his notebook computer. I didn't recognize him until he handed me his credit card (which was declined, and he had to use a second one - I found this quietly humorous, considering the contract he had just signed). I was once again a little starstruck, but decided not to ask him for an autograph. I set him up with everything he needed and he EXTENDED HIS PITCHING HAND TO ME, once again UNSOLICITED. We shook and he left.
And now he sucks, and I really do think it is my fault.

It really is the truth
The meeting-famous-person thing:
Anyway, I'm not a Fil fan (any more than a Michael Jackson fan), so I went on my way. Telling my students this story later in Moscow, however, got this reaction: "And you didn't kill him?!? You could've saved us all years of musical agony and you just let him go?!?"
They were kidding...mostly. But I did have my Swiss Army knife in my backpack.
Anyway, Phil: If Petey or Pretend Commissioner Bud come into the store, You're The Guy, okay? We're counting on you, buddy...
I'm on it, coach.
And if I see any Russians wearing a single white glove, maybe I'll skip the handshake and go straight for the trachea.
re:
I'm going to decline lunch at the Kremlin...
[In fairness to Fil Kirkorov, btw, I happened to see a Russian MTV segment on his back-up singers (the Fillets or Filettes or something) a while after "meeting" him in the hotel corridor, and Fil made a brief appearance in it. What surprised me was that he came off as pretty UN-Michael Jackson ("Look, I just do this show-biz routine every night to make a living, OK-- I'm not a great musical talent, but people don't get cheated, it's a good spectacle. And the Filettes are a big part of the reason.") It was pretty disarming.
So I was sort of glad, actually, that I didn't fillet him with the ol' Swiss Army knife after all.
one better
krukie is waiting for his flight, and in line at burger king. his family is sitting to the side.
so, i'm looking at this massive, MAMMOTH of a man, when someone behind me says, "hey, that's john kruk!" in a voice that would wake the dead. he turned, and looked at me, nodded, and then kept looking at me, as if awaiting a response.
two thoughts came into my mind instantly. the first, which i did not say, was, "hey, how's your ball?"
the second i did say, not even thinking, really. he was clearly buying food for him and his family, and so what popped out of my mouth was, "wow, mr. kruk, do you always eat that much?"
yeah...good times.

Sorry Guthrie, try to hang in there.
They love exploding in the first two innings
Guthrie has to go the bench and scream
Then he'll realize Patterson and Bako lead it all off and sink into despair.
Lord this lineup sucks.
Oh my god!!!
So Guthrie to get teh shaft again
It's too bad
Gamdeday show a red dot past the wall

And thats
So long Evil Rodrigo, farewell
Stickball
Gibbons
Of course, that's what he'll TRY to do and he'll just pop up to 2nd.

Guthrie up to date stats
IP H BB HR SO WHIP BAA ERA
65.2 51 11 4 42 0.94 .217 2.74
Those are stats worth tuning in for. You have to love this guy. Somebody tell the shitty bats that. They've managed to get him a whole 3 wins. They're the reason I HATE to tune in. Well, them and the bullpen.
good question duck

6-15 in 1 run games.
Yankees pass us in the standings.
Guthrie is the Man!
That's as good as it gets for him and he did not let me down.
Moscow here mopping up a Guthrie rerun ...
At the end of the year we should also be able to come up with some sort of unique new award, e.g. Only Player Ever to Qualify as Legitimate Ace of Starting Staff of an MLB Team With Three [3] Wins for the Season.
What the hell, eh? Smile: nobody named Baez lost this game. Whoopee.
OK, I get to watch this next one. BUH DARD BUH DARD BUH DARD. See ya tonight...
p.s. Clemens plays hard, you gotta give him credit. A lot, in fact. Even if you dislike the team or the player, it's still gratifying to watch a good veteran work hard, use his smarts and earn his dough, especially when Father Time is taking bets against him.
I'd like Clemens a lot more if he was an Astro
Ask and you shall receive

These are strictly showing Guthrie's Starts. He spot started on April 24 and picked up the loss. Since then he's been a rotation regular, and a regular bright spot in said rotation with 7 quality starts in a row since May 8 and only 2 wins to show for it.

the bottom graph
Maybe I should just stick a picture of the bullpen up there for anything "exploded."
