Gameday Thread: Twins at Orioles, 08/26

Game Time: 1:35 | TV: MASN, FSNO

Scott Baker, RH EriK "The Great" Bedard (6-6, 4.50) (13-4, 2.97)
A. Casilla 2b .234 B. Roberts 2b .308 J. Bartlett ss .275 C. Patterson cf .276 T. Hunter cf .301 M. Tejada dh .299 J. Morneau 1b .287 N. Markakis rf .290 M. Cuddyer rf .275 K. Millar 1b .265 M. Redmond c .288 A. Huff 3b .265 R. White dh .138 F. Bynum ss .260 J. Tyner lf .283 P. Bako c .210 N. Punto 3b .200 T. Redman lf .348

The Orioles have the greatness that is Erik Bedard starting. Well, there's your preview.

OK, a few more notes. Although his average has dropped 6 points in the last week, Nick Markakis is now our cleanup hitter, at least for today with Millar getting the day off. Tejada goes back into the #3 spot where he spent much of his time when he first came to Baltimore, iirc. Mora gets Sunday off and Aubrey gets to work on his tan at 3B.

This game SHOULD be slightly more enjoyable than the last five, although unless Bedard decides today's the day to throw another complete game, who knows how it will end? But it should be fun to watch for 6 innings or so.

Let's go O's.

All set: I have peanut butter, jelly and baseball.
There are 12 million other people in this city, and it is a good bet that approximately 11,999,996 (or so) of them do not have this Utterly American Combination in a good-for-launch position.

Too bad, suckers. OK, I'm looking at 6-8 innings of a nice smooth ride here, Monsieur Erik.

On y va! Go O's!

Way to sign 'em, Mac and Petey! Your execution has been postponed!

And that's #219
And the crowd goes, uh, wild? At least the 1,500 or so that seem to be there.

Hell, this game's over
The way the O's are hitting, no way they get 3 runs.

I HATE THE TWINS!!!
Why can't the O's get people who actually hit! I mean, Nick Punto's batting .200 and HE gets a clutch hit, while Whiffy McGIDP at DH today bats .300 and contributes nothing.

Yes Johnnypops, it's time to trade Tejada.

I HATE THE TWINS! But I'd like to see our O's model their approach.

Brian Roberts
Can someone please explain to me why people love this guy?

by dtuck81 on Aug 26, 2007 2:07 PM EDT reply actions

'Cause he's cute, I guess, and
he's the only one on this team remotely resembling a major league hitter at the moment?

9-game losing streak, here we come.

Oh
Imagine how many hits he'd have if he ever ran balls out to first.

Or, if he stopped lolly-popping every single throw. Or would stop being so concerned with how his pants are after he dives back into field.

Roberts never gets called out for not running balls out/not hustling.

Hope Jon Heyman ain't watchin' this game. Have fun folks, I'm out.

I enjoyed the pb. The jelly was also good.
The Orioles, on the other hand, sucked.

Bye.

"I remember when I broke into the big leagues in 1879 and I was playing for the Cincinnati Red Stockings and we had to get all of the goats off the playing field before the first pitch was thrown and how I had to spend all of my time in the bullpen at that time.  We were much better than the Orioles are right now...heck I should try to make another comeback and help the team out because I think that we could win then...and I am just so great that I am thinking about forming my own church so people would be able to worship me out in the open...and Mark Belanger, we used to call him "The Blade" he wasn't that great a hitter but he was much better than blah blah blah and when I was young we used to have to walk uphill both ways to school and I once had to fight off a bear with nothing but my spiral note-book and I used to drink my own piss because I was tough back then hell we were alot more tough than any of these pussies (I will ignore the fact that it was because of ME that the five man rotation came into existence and the end of the 20 game winner might have been a result of me.)"

I love how this guy went what, 23-27 in his big league career and always craps on the 2007 team. ALWAYS. It's ALWAYS "this is how it once was"...Oh, and his kid at 17 (a couple years back) was good enough to face big league hitters he said...

Do you think the people realize that Palmer makes the Orioles broadcasts seem very unprofessional? I've travelled across the country and can tell you that the broadcasters with Palmer leave a LOT to be desired.

This team is no longer fun to watch. It's about time to put the 2007 season to rest.

Glad I went down for that one.
The "All You Can Eat Left Field Club" is a good idea. ("All You Can Drink Right Field Gentleman's Club" would be an even better one though, Peter Angelos)

"Orioles Baseball" is a bad idea.

the REST of them can certainly follow your suggestion. And I don't count Liz in that groups, he just got to this train wreck.

According to Ken Rosenthal
The Orioles have a couple of valuable trading chips in Kevin Millar and Steve Trachsel.  Trax has cleared waivers; Millar is an unknown.  Trachsel is back on the radar with a 2.53 August ERA (though he's whiffed only five in 32 innings).

the O's don't trade players
Unless it is two completely inconsequential players. I'm not holding my breath. Maybe MacPhail will be different. All I know is he can't be worse, right?

Wow, it's not even safe to tune into a Bedard star
Some congrats are in order, at least the team made it to almost the end of August before folding up.
