Trax traded to Cubs
From FOX Sports:
The Cubs, fortifiying their rotation before Friday's midnight deadline for setting post-season rosters, have obtained Orioles right-hander Steve Trachsel for two minor leaguers, according to major-league sources.
Trachsel, who turns 37 on Oct. 31, cleared waivers and was perhaps the best of the starting pitchers currently available. He is 1-1 with a 2.37 ERA in six August starts, and 6-8 with a 4.48 ERA in 20 starts overall this season.
I couldn't find who the minor leaguers are. Hopefully a batboy and backup mascot.
Update [2007-8-31 15:38:17 by duck]:
From The Baltimore Sun:
BOSTON - The Orioles today traded veteran right-hander Steve Trachsel to the Chicago Cubs for Triple-A reliever Rocky Cherry and Triple-A third baseman Scott Moore.
Cherry, a 28-year-old right-hander, was 2-0 with a 4.59 ERA and seven saves in 43 games for Triple-A Iowa. He also made 12 relief appearances for the Cubs, going 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA.
Moore, 23, batted .265 with 19 home runs and 69 RBIs for Iowa. He appeared in two games for the Cubs and went hitless in five plate appearances. He played 16 games for the Cubs last season, hitting .263 with two homers and five RBIs.
Baseball America named Moore, the eighth overall pick by the Detroit Tigers in the 2002 draft, the Cubs' seventh best prospect after last season.

Scoot Moore
http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/M/Scott-Moore.shtml
He posted solid numbers at AAA this year, was the former 8th overall pick in 2002 and hes only 23. He is instantly one of the best position prospects the Orioles have right now. Pretty good trade for only giving up a month of Trachsel.

Moore and Cherry
Cherry was the AAA closer for most of the season. He's 28, so not a prospect, but a fine middle of the bullpen guy.
For a month of Trachsel (to spot start) and the option to turn down his option, this is pretty good for the O's.
Chicago reports say this was a Hendry/McPhail deal.

I eat my words
Maybe Moore can be a serviceable player. Lots of strikeouts and a bit of power. It's worth a try and it clears the books of Trachsel's money.
We'll be seeing more of Liz and Olson. I'm all for that. Let them learn.

Seems OK to me
All in all it seems like the O's got something for nothing. I have no problem at all with this move.

While I'd never heard of either of these guys
It's the first time in recent memory in which I felt pretty good after a trade. If this is indicative of the Mack Fail era of O's baseball, then we could do worse.

Really?
Rocky Cherry doesn't look quite as good as Moore but with a name like that who the fuck cares? And honestly he can probably do a better job than all the jerkoffs were trotting out of the bullpen right now who aren't named ChadBrad or Walker.
I'm really pleasantly surprised with this deal. Maybe the Cubs felt bad for us or something.

Maybe it works for both
The O's need someone with a reasonable shot at making to the big club in a year, who's still somewhat young.
I think this works for both teams. Nice to see the O's actually get something.

Is anyone else...
Personally I wouldn't mind seeing Melvin move back to LF; maybe he wouldn't have range but he'd be more competent with the bat than Payton.

yep
I try not to watch too much of Wahoo's bunch because being in Ohio I'm sick of hearing about them, but I've seen Gomez in a few games coming up with a big hit late, driving in go-ahead runs, and making some plays too. I then make sure all those stupid Wahoo fans i'm friends know where they got 'this new guy' and make them say it out loud too "Bal..ti...more". It probably hurts them a little...but fuck 'em.
hopefully Trachsel can help the cubs out...then I can do the same to my dad. "you won because of the Orioles. What Now?"
yeah...all the best steve
