Jeremy Guthrie deserves better, people. Seriously - a dozen or so no-decisions, a 3.65 ERA and all this team can get for him is SEVEN wins? Guts would have had seven by the end of May if we had any offense, defense or bullpen.

The J.V. took care of things last night, and I hope Melvin Mora is getting REALLY insecure about his job right now. Better get an OF glove this off-season, MelMo. You MIGHT just need it.

The NFL starts in earnest today, except for the Ravens, Bengals, Cardinals and 49ers. So unless you're a fan of one of those four teams (and I'd like to think there's a fair amount of Ravens fans here), enjoy one of those wonderful major sports double-headers - football and baseball. And with Roger Federererererer going for his, what, 17th straight U.S. Open, there's tennis too.

And yet we still spend part of our day with the O's. We must be sick.

What's funny is that your text came up long before the picture...and I sort of assumed that when the pic emerged it would be a group shot of Russia's Federation Cup tennis team.

I was in St. Petersburg in 95

I flew there from Sweden via Aeroflot. It was interesting. :-)

Yeah, I'm back in Moscow now.

School starts tomorrow, and somebody's gotta show up and warp the young minds (I teach English-- which is pretty warped, all right, the way I do it).

Re blackouts: It was ridiculous, of course, but yes-- I was blacked out of an O's game earlier this year via MLB.com's national blackout policy. In freakin' Moscow! Like you don't get enough deprivation living here!

When I signed up for the MLB.com package

I used my Visa card, providing the US billing address for it-- little realizing that that address (my parents' place in NY) would become the basis for blacking me out of games.

If I'd thought to get a Russian Visa card and used that home address to sign up, then yeah, I could presumably drag MLB.com to international arbitration in The Hague or some damn thing if they blacked me out.

On the other hand, if I were that prescient, I would be picking lottery numbers for a living. The short version: I'm as screwed as everybody else by MLB.com. But hey, as a veteran screwee under the Petey regime, it's not like I'm breaking into new territory here or something.

I think they just look for any way to screw you. Last year I thought I beat the system. I had a friend buy the subscription and she's in Tampa. Still I was blacked out. I was sooo mad. Have I mentioned how much I worship MASN? :-)

Don't even get me started about the MLB

Let's just say they got a pretty hateful letter on Opening Day when the game was blacked out. Couple days later DISH made deal with MASN. DISH got a very different and happy letter. I won't even talk about the waste of money MLBtv was...

I majored in ESL too (for masters), but sold out to corporate world. I admire you adventurous types!

I am a bigger football than baseball fan

But I think the odds are against us Monday night at Cincy. We have lost four of our last five against them and Carson usually has a good game against the Ravens. Remeber that just two years ago the Ravens were HORRENDUS on the road, and this game is at Paul Brown stadium so this may not be a nice night.
