A minor bit of blogwhoring, but I figured that some folks might be interested to know that the 2009 Angels bullpen is the worst in team history as measured by ERA (The second worst was the 1994 arson squad, with a 5.47 ERA, that is, this team is a full half-run worse; measured against league average of 4.88 ERA, this team's bullpen is more than a run worse than that at 6.01). The only two relievers with above-average ERAs (as measured by ERA+) are Darren Oliver and small-sample-sized (3.1 IP) Rich Thompson. Can Brandon Wood pitch?

Eddie Coleman reports as much in a blog post over at the WFAN website. Wagner is reportedly ahead of schedule and, depending on the state of things in Flushing, might be back in the 'pen by mid-August. Not to get too far ahead of ourselves here but, as Cerrone notes with regard to this possibility, that could leave the Mets with one scary bullpen for the stretch run. I guess we can just wait and hope for the best on this.

I like that Fuentes may be seeking only a three-year deal. But if $10-11 million per year is too much, then what is Omar thinking Fuentes is worth? Is this Omar doing a good job of playing in the deep closer market, or needless quibbling?
