CC.com MLB Awards: 2005 Cy Youngs

With a second consecutive dominant year, Minnesota's Johan Santana, who went 16-7 despite playing for the lowest-scoring team in the AL, is the winner of the 2005 CC.com American League Cy Young award. Santana had a 2.87 ERA and a league-best 238 strikeouts.

Santana received eight of fifteen first-place votes. 20-game winner Bartolo Colon of the Angels finished second overall and had two first-place votes, Yankees closer Mariano Rivera had four and finished third, and Jon Garland of the White Sox had one and finished sixth overall. Chicago's Mark Buehrle finished fourth, followed by AL ERA champion Kevin Millwood of the Indians.

With a season for the ages, 43-year old Roger Clemens of the Astros carried a career-low 1.87 ERA over poor run support and just a 13-8 record to the 2005 CC.com National League Cy Young award. Clemens, who came back after contemplating retirement following the 2004 campaign, dominated the entire year for Houston, and in a sane world would have won 25 games.

Clemens had ten first-place votes. Second-place finisher Dontrelle Willis of the Marlins had three, and St. Louis ace Chris Carpenter notched two first-place votes and finished third. Clemens' teammates Andy Pettitte and Roy Oswalt finished fourth and fifth.
