Gameday Thread: A's at O's, 08/29

Kirk Saarloos, RH Erik Bedard, LH
     (9-6, 3.92) (6-5, 3.20)

Game time is 3:05 on nothing, not that anyone is that interested in seeing it.

The A's are back in first place in the AL West. Saarloos' first start of the year was against the O's on April 6, and he one-hit us over six innings in a 9-0 Oakland victory. Bedard's first start of the year was April 7 against Oakland, when he went seven strong, allowing three hits and one earned run in a 5-1 A's win.

Saarloos has been pretty interesting this year, with a solid record and overall numbers, but a terrible K-to-BB ratio of one-to-one on the nose (37 K, 37 BB over 126.1 IP). He's kept the ball in the park and done all you could ask of him. He will generally give you five good innings.

This is the conclusion of this series, and from here we head to Toronto and Boston for a six-game road trip. As little as the O's can do for themselves, they're still going to be in the position to play spoiler in the AL East race over September with six games against Boston and eight against the Yankees.
