Gameday Thread: O's at M's, 09/09

Erik Bedard, LH Jamie Moyer, LH
     (6-6, 3.76) (11-6, 4.27)

Game time is 10:05 on WNUV and FSN Northwest.

Alright, enough jibber-jabber. Bedard has stunk his last two starts and has seen his ERA climb from 2.08 when he went on the DL in May to 3.76 now. His last three starts, his control hasn't been there. Erik's regressing. It's time to temper your expectations a smidge. He's no longer a guy we can expect to win, since the O's have won two games in ten Bedard starts since his return on July 18 (7/18 at Minnesota, 8/9 v Tampa Bay).

Jamie Moyer is still fabulous - at home. I bring this up every time we face him (this will be the third time, and he's been good against the O's both of the other starts), but it really is worth it again. Moyer, at Safeco, is 8-0 with a 2.73 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and .247 ERA. Away from Seattle, he's 3-6, 6.37, 1.77, .330.

Think about it: Moyer is putting up a home ERA better than the full ERAs of Roy Oswalt, Pedro Martinez, Jake Peavy, John Smoltz and John Patterson among the NL leaders, and the only guy in the AL with an ERA better than 2.73 is Roy Halladay (2.41). On the road, he's Sidney Ponson. That is a drastic difference.
