He's back in "an undisclosed role" with the Red Sox, details will be given next week. Right now, Jed Hoyer and Ben Cherington are co-GMs of the Red Sox, and worked under Epstein before. The Red Sox deny that Larry Lucchino's role has been lessened in order to bring Theo back. Who knows? I don't even really care, but he is obviously a quality baseball mind that only strengthens Boston's front office.
