Quick news: Rudy Jaramillo does not want to manage the Rangers. Joe Girardi was interviewed by the Cubs and I expect he'll be taking over there. The Mets are expected to start Glavine in game one of the NLCS, likely against Jeff Weaver. The Dodgers want Greg Maddux to return to Los Angeles in 2007, and may re-sign Nomar as well, depending on his price tag after a nice bounce-back season. Nomar's a big fan favorite in LA and Colletti recognizes that. The Padres are expected to exercise their option on Russell Branyan, so if you wanted the BRAN-MAN, then too bad.
Detroit at Oakland - Game 1, FOX, 8:05
Nate Robertson, LH (13-13, 3.84) v. Barry Zito, LH (16-10, 3.83)
Robertson was the only Tiger starter that New York really got to in the ALDS, giving up seven earned on 12 hits in 5 2/3 innings. Zito was tremendous in his start against Minnesota, outdueling Johan Santana and getting the A's into a sweeping mode right out of the gates.
Kenny Rogers is going to be held back until game three despite his absurd career success in Oakland, with Justin Verlander going in game two as Leyland thinks Rogers' performance against New York was "draining." For his career in Oakland, he's 25-4 with a 3.46 ERA in 56 games (45 starts). Since 1995, he's 23-1 in 41 starts. Leyland weighed it, but has decided to save Rogers for Detroit. It's not like Kenny's bad there, anyway.
