Oakland at Detroit - Game 3, FOX, 4:35
Detroit leads series, 2-0
Rich Harden, RH (4-0, 4.24) v. Kenny Rogers, LH (17-8, 3.84)
I wouldn't expect Rogers to throw like he did in the ALDS, but then I could say that about every game Kenny ever pitches again. That was a hell of a performance. With their backs against the wall heading to Detroit, the A's are turning to Rich Harden in game three. When Harden is 100 percent, he's one of the best pitchers in the game. He has not pitched since October 1, when the Angels lit him up to close the season. It shows a lot of confidence in Harden, but I might've just stuck with Haren if it were my call.
St. Louis at NY Mets - Game 2, FOX, 8:05
NY Mets lead series, 1-0
Chris Carpenter, RH (15-8, 3.09) v. John Maine, RH (6-5, 3.60)
John Maine in the NLCS. Our little baby is all grows up. The Cards turned to Carpenter to close out the Padres at home, and now they turn to Carpenter so they don't have to start Suppan outside of St. Louis. It's a shame that Chris Carpenter has to carry the load, but it's also a shame that Jeff freakin' Weaver did his damn job yesterday and they didn't put any runs on the board to help him out. Can't blame the Weave this time. Carpenter is on five days' rest, so he should be fine, but the Cardinals are playing their sixth postseason game tonight, and Carpenter will now have started half of them. That's old school.
