Justin Verlander and Hanley Ramirez won the MLB Rookie of the Year awards.

The A's are down to three in their search for Ken Macha's successor: Orel Hershiser, Bob Geren and Jamie Quirk. Last I knew, Geren was considered the front-runner. Trey Hillman is out of consideration.

The Padres are considering trading Jake Peavy, a 25-year old righty with ace stuff and some shoulder issues. Peavy was dynamite in 2004 and 2005 before having an OK 2006. The good thing is that despite the arm problems that have flared up, Peavy still pitched 200 innings, still struck out 215, and still wasn't hit too hard. If there is a way to get Jake Peavy on this team, I probably endorse it. Like, say, if they'd take Hayden Penn and Rodrigo Lopez, or something of that nature. Brian Giles may also be on the block.

Joe Girardi is headed back to the YES Network to ask people stupid questions.

The Red Sox have placed the high bid on Matsuzaka. The Mariners are showing some interest in Kei Igawa.

Jose Valentin will stay with the Mets, and Kaz Matsui will stay with the Rockies.
