Schmidt to LAD, Garcia to Phillies for Gavin Floyd, no LuGo for us

The Schmidt-to-Los Angeles deal is done, at the rumored three years, $47 million. It's a nice pickup for the Dodgers, a more than suitable replacement for Greg Maddux.

The Dodgers also beat out the Cardinals and us for Luis Gonzalez, signing the veteran left fielder to a one-year, $7.5 million deal.

Freddy Garcia was sent to Philadelphia for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez. Floyd might still wind up a good pitcher, but the move allows the White Sox to put Brandon McCarthy in the rotation, which is where he wants to be. This may also make Jon Lieber expendable from Philadelphia's side.

Chances seem to be that Bonds will return to the Giants for 2007.
