Puckett in critical condition, Rueter retires

If you hadn't heard by now, Kirby Puckett suffered a stroke and underwent surgery yesterday. The Hall of Fame outfielder is now in critical condition. Puckett was a hell of a player, had to retire too early, and got into the Hall anyway, which I've never had a problem with. I think Don Mattingly should probably be there too. Best of luck to him.

Kirk Rueter retired, which I note because Kirk Rueter has always absolutely puzzled me. By all conventional ways of scouting a pitcher, Kirk Rueter stunk. But that man went 130-92 in his career with a perfectly respectable 4.27 ERA. He is the winningest left-handed pitcher in Giants history. Go figure. I don't know that I'll ever figure Kirk Rueter out. He will be a mystery that confuzzles me the rest of my life.
