Well, it's Labor Day weekend, we're all on vacation or finishing the deck, and no one seems to be paying attention to the O's because, let's face it, they're exactly where we thought they'd be by Labor Day.
Nonetheless, they did play a game this afternoon, and they actually snapped Oakland's home-field win streak at 10 games.
Some highlights (and lowlights):
- Adam Loewen improved to 3-0 in his last four starts, but only pitched so-so: 3 ER in 5 IP, giving up 4 BBs and 2 Hs; the nice think is he struck out 7. Yikes!
- Someone on our team named Julio Manon gave up a 3-run homer to Frank Thomas; but he only earned one of the runs (the other two went to Loewen), and he actually earned a "hold";
- The Birds' offense was driven by Miguel Tejada (2 RBIs) and Chris Gomez (!) (2 RBIs); B-Rob also drove in a run, and MarKICKASS went 2 for 4 and garnered his 13th 2-out RBI of the year;
- Chris Ray made a throwing error in the ninth, but still got his 31st save in 34 chances.
Finally, here's your Classic Oriole Moment (TM) of the game:
"I would say that was a group vapor lock," Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo said. "I just slid my hat down over my face. I've never seen that many people run off the field at once."
Nice. Gotta love this group's focus.
Thanks to drj for putting up a thread for this game.
