Following Cabrera's magnificent season-closing performance last night, the O's have just three games left, as they travel to Fenway Park to take on the third place Boston Red Sox. Sure, we're the fourth place Baltimore Orioles, but a big part of me wants to see us sweep them and make sure they finish behind Toronto. Not that I have any love for the Jays or anything. I just like to mix things up sometimes, and New York and Boston have been 1-2 in the AL East since Clinton was in office. The last time they weren't 1-2, the Orioles won the division.
Your spine-tingling matchups for this final series are:
Bedard (15-10, 3.67) v. Julian Tavarez (4-4, 4.52)
Loewen (6-6, 5.30) v. Tim Wakefield (7-11, 4.63)
Penn (0-3, 13.76) v. Devern Hansack (0-1, 5.40)
That last one is what closing the season is all about. A 21-year old prospect that clearly is not ready for the major leagues against a 28-year old rookie who has thrown five innings of major league baseball in his life. Goddamn, smell the excitement!
It'll all be over for us sometime in the late afternoon on Sunday. We can put another wasted year of following the Orioles behind us, and like fools, optimistically look forward to next season.
WHICH IS GOING TO KICK ASS WHEN CABRERA IS THROWING A ONE-HITTER EVERY START!
