O's better than Expos, Shuey hurt, Braves pick up Redman

Paul Shuey strained his Achilles' tendon in Baltimore's 4-3 win over the Expos today in Fort Lauderdale. Shuey is confident he'll get back on the field, but any injury is a serious setback to his comeback bid.

The O's beat up on Expos prospect Matt Chico, chasing him after 2 1/3 innings, having battered him for six hits and four earned runs. Jaret Wright picked up the win with two scoreless innings (1 H, 3 K, 0 BB), and Jeremy Guthrie relieved him with another strong outing (2 IP, 1 H, 1 K). Danys Baez picked up his second save of the spring.

Aubrey Huff went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, and the O's also got hits from Brian Roberts, Melvin Mora, Nick Markakis, Miguel Tejada, Razor Ramon, Jay Gibbons and Jason Dubois. Tejada and Markakis had the other RBIs.

Washington's runs came from the bats of Danny Ardoin and Chris Snelling.

To replace the injured Mike Hampton, the Braves signed free agent and world's shittiest All-Star Mark Redman to a minor league deal.
