Thank heavens he's off the disabled list and can throw THREE WHOLE INNINGS and 61 ENTIRE PITCHES. Oh! Thank you!
Brian Burres threw four more quality innings. Maybe he should just start. Guthrie came in for the eighth and gave up three runs.
Aubrey Huff hit a solo homer in the ninth for our only run.
I don't care that Britton is barely a Yankee at all. If he was in A-ball with epic diarrhea, he'd be roughly as useful as Wright has been. And boy, Scott Williamson, what a great pickup. Who could have seen him getting hurt?
At 12-13, the O's have fallen into third place, a half-game behind Toronto. Boston is staking out a nice little early lead in the division, and the Yankees lost again to fall to 9-14. Already, the "Fire Torre" rumors are starting up. Who the hell is going to manage? Don Mattingly?
In a way, though, I almost feel sympathetic regarding the Yankees. Jeff Karstens getting his fibula broken? Come on, really? That is horrible, snakebitten sort of stuff. Kei Igawa did a hell of a job on Saturday out of the bullpen, and he's probably getting his rotation spot back.
If it weren't for A-Rod, how bad would that team be right now? That's something to consider.
The worse news for us is that we now head to Detroit for a three-game set, which isn't going to be easy. After a day off Thursday, the Indians come to town for four, followed by the Devil Rays at the Yards for three.
Then, a nine-game road trip: Boston, Toronto, Expos. Should be a hoot!
This team is driving me up a wall.
