Baltimore's favorite sports writer to hate Ken Rosenthal is reporting on FOXSports.com what we've been led to believe would happen all weekend: Maryland's own Mark Teixiera is heading to Atlanta to become a member of the Braves.
The deal is done, pending a review of the medical records of the players involved, according to major-league sources.
So he's a Brave, at least for the rest of this season, and possibly all of next season, if they don't trade him before his contract expires at the end of the 2008 season. He doesn't have the contractual right to demand a trade after the season, IIRC. So if Baltimore wants him, he will be a part of the 2009 Orioles at the earliest.
The Braves will receive Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay.
The Rangers will receive catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Class A shortstop Elvis Andrus and two pitching prospects.
One of the prospects is believed to be Class AA left-hander Matt Harrison.
