Gameday Thread: O's (6-3) at Rays (4-5)

Jeremy Guthrie, RH (0-1, 5.11/1.46) v. James Shields, RH (1-1, 3.00/1.42)

A rematch from Opening Day. I wonder if Guthrie and Shields can have a big rivalry like Kris Benson and Casey Janssen had in 2006?

Game time is 7:10 on MASN2.

The Tampa Bay rotation has taken hits with Kazmir and now Garza being sidelined, but there's more reason to fear the Rays: Edwin Jackson is finally pitching like he was supposed to, and with David Price down in the minors...whoa. Look out.

Guts did a nice job last time out against Seattle, going seven strong in the awesome ninth inning comeback win over the Mariners. That comeback wouldn't have been possible, really, if Jeremy hadn't kept it close.

We need a win today, I'd say. Brush off the double-header.

In other news, Rays reliever Al Reyes celebrated his 38th birthday by getting arrested.

FUN STATS, ETC.

  • Guthrie has faced Tampa Bay six times, with four starts. He's 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.71 WHIP. The Rays hit .313 off of him.
  • In 92 at-bats, Razor Ramon has hit .326/.375/.489 at the Trop.
  • Shields went 7-3, 3.53/1.10 at home last season.
  • Mike DiFelice, back in the majors because Dioner Navarro is on the DL, is always fun because he might get thrown out of a game. He served as part of the world's oldest catching platoon last season for the New Orleans Zephyrs (Mets AAA), with ancient Sandy Alomar, Jr.
