AL East Top 10 Prospects 1. Matt Wieters - C - Baltimore Orioles Positives - He is the full package at the toughest position to play in baseball. He can hit incredibly well, has excellent plate discipline and plays very good defense behind the plate. Negatives - I honestly can’t think of a bad thing to say about Wieters. He has the entire package. 3. Brian Matusz - LHP - Baltimore Orioles Positives - He has an advanced approach to pitching while mixing in very good control. The lefty brings two offspeed pitches that are both above average and that he controls well. Negatives - His fastball is nothing to write home about as it stays in the 88-92 MPH range most of the time. He also has no professional track record to rely on at all. 6. Chris Tillman - RHP - Baltimore Orioles Positives - Big projectable frame at 6′5″ and 195 lbs. His fastball sits in the low 90’s. He has an above average curveball and posted a 26.6% strikeout rate in AA at age 20. Negatives - His control needs to be honed in still as he has always walked his share of batters. His change up also needs to develop some more because at this point he only has two MLB pitches. There is also a look at Jake Arrieta in the Eastern League Preview and an article on Wieters heading to the minors and why it might be happening.
