Brian Matusz, the 2nd third of the holy trinity of pitchers to make it to the big leagues.
Brian Matusz, the 2nd third of the holy trinity of pitchers to make it to the big leagues.

It's Brian Matusz (MATT-us, I have been told) time! Per Roch's blog, Brian will take the mound tonight wearing number 52. George's empty locker isn't even cold yet and they're giving away his number!

Brian makes what some on here believe to be an ill timed major league debut given his short time in the minors, and time will tell if that's the case. Here is what Kevin Goldstein had to say about that:

Despite throwing just 113 professional innings, scouts agree that Matusz is ready to compete in the majors, and while the Orioles remain mired in last place, they're given their fans various glimpses of a much brighter future throughout the year, and Matusz is yet another one of those points of light.

With Matusz pitching to Matt Wieters, the 2007 and 2008 #1 picks for the Orioles team up. I've said it before and I'll say it again: it's an exciting time to be an O's fan, even with all the losses.

Go O's!
