Are you ready for Guthrie v. Garza: Round Two?
Of their five losses, there were only two where the O's just weren't really in the game. One was their second game of the year when Matt Garza handled them easily. He allowed two runs but only one earned, both in the first inning. After that the O's couldn't touch him as he pitched 8 innings with 9 strike outs and only 2 walks. Rays closer Rafael Soriano tried to ruin Garza's night but ultimately shut down the O's to get the save.
Jeremy Guthrie couldn't match Garza's effort but he didn't have a bad night himself. He allowed an RBI single to B.J. Upton in the 4th inning and a 2 RBI double to Evan Longoria in the 5th. He pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 8 hits with 6 strike outs, 2 walks, and importantly for Guts, zero home runs.
I'd love to see the O's bust out of their woes tonight but I don't have much confidence when they're facing Garza. But hey, you never know, right?
Matt Wieters is catching again. Cue the hysteria.
