GameThread: Orioles (2-12) @ Mariners (7-7)

And here we go again. David Hernandez faces Jason Vargas in a battle of #5 starters. Hernandez pitched very well in his first start of the year, taking the hard luck loss against the Blue Jays despite allowing only 2 runs in 6 innings. He wasn't as successful in Oakland, allowing 4 earned runs in 5 innings. Hernandez faced the Mariners twice last year with one good outing and one poor one.

Jason Vargas got knocked around by Texas in his 2010 debut, allowing 5 runs in 5.1 innings, but he was much more impressive in his second start against Oakland, giving up only 2 runs in 6 innings with 6 Ks and 0 BBs. Vargas pitched against the Orioles three times in 2009 and was pretty good each time. He's a lefty, though, so no surprise.

Nothing much to say about the Orioles hitters; they all pretty much stink. Maybe they'll turn it around tonight. Hey, it has to happen sometime, right?
