Well folks, here we are. Is there anyone here that can possibly imagine the Orioles winning this game? David Hernandez is the kind of pitcher that a team like the Yankees, in a place like Yankee Stadium, will chew up and spit out. I really, really hope to be wrong about that, but the kid has a fly ball % of over 50%. The fact that he's only given up 2 HR this year is kind of astonishing. Add that to the fact that he walks almost 5 per 9 innings and hasn't been able to strike many out at the major league level and you've got a recipe for disaster.
And if that weren't enough, Andy Pettitte is pitching for the Yankees. Pettitte has had a phenomenal start to the season. And lest you forget, in his career (a career that feels like it's lasted 25 years) Pettitte is 26-6 against the O's with a 3.60 ERA. I hate him, partially because there are way too many t's in his name.
I feel like I usually try and stay a little positive when I'm writing a game thread, and if I'm feeling totally pessimistic I just don't say much at all. But whatever, that hasn't really worked out, so maybe this will.
This just in from Britt Ghiroli: Adam Jones has been scratched from the lineup with a strained right hip. Lou Montanez will take his place in center field and the backup shortstop will take his place at the top of the lineup. Because he gets on base so often. Say what you want about Adam, but I'll take him any day of the week over this scenario. Anyone want to take bets on when Corey Patterson makes his first appearance with the team?
