The Orioles met their match today as they fell to the Twins 2-0. It was a scoreless game going into the 8th inning when Chorye Spoone gave up both Twins runs on three hits and a sacrifice fly. That was all the Twins needed as their pitching staff, led by Carl Pavano, shut down the mighty Orioles' offense. They collected only five hits on the day, two of which were from Mark Reynolds. The other three came from Nick Markakis, J.J. Hardy, and Josh Bell (who had a double, the O's only extra base hit).
On the pitching side of the house, Brian Matusz started and pitched two innings. He didn't allow a hit and struck out two, but he walked one. Also pitching for the O's today were Kevin Gregg, Jeremy Accardo, Adrian Rosario, Josh Rupe, Wynn Pelzer, the previously mentioned Spoone, and Clay Rapada. Other than Matusz and Spoone, every pitcher pitched one inning and gave up one hit.
The Orioles are back in action tomorrow at 1:05 against the Detroit Tigers. The game will be broadcast by the Tigers and will be available through your MLB.com device of choice.
