Updates on J.J. Hardy and Brad Bergesen

Per Jeff Zrebiec, J.J. Hardy got his MRI and it revealed a strained oblique. He'll be placed on the disabled list and will be out two to three weeks while it heals. I think given the options that's the best we could have hoped for. Reports prior to the MRI were that, depending upon the injury, he could have been out at least six weeks. So let's just hope that Hardy has a speedy recovery and that the two-headed monster of Cesar Izturis and Robert Andino doesn't suck too badly in the meantime.

As for Brad Bergesen, Roch Kubatko is reporting that he is in Baltimore, not Norfolk, and that he won't be starting for the Tides tonight as was previously thought. It seems that he'll be promoted when Hardy is DL'd to make the start in New York on Wednesday.

This is just speculation on my part, but I have to think that after the Bergesen move is made, Chris Jakubauskas will be sent back to AAA and that another bench player will be called up. I've heard talk of it being Craig Tatum with the idea that Jake Fox can get into the ballgame at third base or left field without taking the backup catcher off the bench. Given that the Orioles already have two utility infielders on the roster that seems to make sense.
