Luke Scott to the disabled list

Per a tweet from Roch Kubatko, Luke Scott will be sent to the disabled list to make room for Mitch Atkins. Atkins, if you haven't heard, is starting tonight for the Orioles in place of the recently demoted Brian Matusz.

Given that surgery is the fix for the torn labrum in Scott's shoulder, I'm not sure what this trip to the disabled list will provide, although Kubatko says that they want to give his shoulder time to "calm down," and adds that his knee has still be bothering him. This does bode well for Nolan Reimold, who has been unable to break into the lineup thanks to Scott playing left field while Vladimir Guerrero takes up space at designated hitter. Reimold started yesterday against a right-handed pitcher so maybe that's a sign of things to come.

If Reimold takes over in left field, that leaves the Orioles with a bench of Craig Tatum, Robert Andino or Blake Davis, and Felix Pie. That's disgusting. Perhaps a corresponding move will be made with the bullpen eventually to bring Brandon Snyder back up.

This of course pretty much nixes any trade talk for Scott, not that he was that attractive of a piece to begin with.
