Happy Zach Britton Day! I don't mean to be a downer, but when the season started, did anyone imagine Britton as the last man standing among the young pitchers? I'm glad he's doing well and I look forward to his games, but I can't think of him without also thinking of Chris Tillman, who finished the season in the minors, Brian Matusz, who is currently sitting in the Orioles bullpen but probably won't see time for the rest of the season, and Jake Arrieta, who had season ending surgery. Of course in addition to Britton the rotation also features Alfredo Simon, who I'm beginning to think of a one of the feel-good stories of the year. So all isn't lost, I suppose.

Starting for the Angels tonight is Ervin Santana, whose good year is no small part of the reason for the Angels' success. Santana has faced the Orioles once this season, pitching 7.2 innings and allowing just one run on three hits. That one run came in the eighth inning, so it was a pretty awful game for the Orioles, who lost the game 6-1. Of course, it was only 2-1 going into the top of the 9th, but you can't expect Kevin Gregg to not give up four runs when he's put into a non-save situation.

After I linked to the FanGraphs story about Matt Wieters yesterday, he went 0-for-4 and EME accused me of jinxing him. So hopefully Matt will crank a few home runs tonight to shut up him.

Speaking of EME, if you were looking forward to one of his gamethreads, my apologies. Check back after the game for his recap of the game as we swapped roles for the night.

Let's Go O's!
