Wada, the 31 year-old pitcher from Japan that Baltimore signed in December, has yet to see any regular season time after experiencing discomfort in his throwing elbow during Spring Training. He was placed on the disabled list before the season.
News of the required surgery follows a report on April 26th that suggested Wada was seeking a second opinion:
The Japanese pitcher was previously diagnosed with ligament damage after a magnetic resonance angiogram. But the 31-year-old wants to consult with orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum before returning to Baltimore to consider his options with Orioles officials.
Wada had little more than two innings of work while trying to recover with AAA Norfolk, giving up six hits, four walks, and six earned runs.
