'Every Game, I Used Drugs': The Story Of Willie Mays Aikens

If you buy something from an SB Nation link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement.

So this isn't Orioles related, but it's a very interesting story. Willie Mays Aiken was a Royals player whose life was dragged down by addiction, eventually leading to fourteen years in jail. There is a book on Aiken's life out now called Safe at Home, and Amy K. Nelson wrote a great piece on him on Baseball Nation to go along with the accompanying feature on You Tube's SBN Channel.

If you're a fan of sports radio, you might hear the author of Safe at Home, Gregory Jordan, on Baltimore radio discussing the book. He's making the rounds here in Baltimore and I'm hoping to get a time/station nailed down so I can pass it on to you all as well as try to listen myself.

I haven't had a chance to read the book myself, but after reading the Baseball Nation piece and watching the video, I'm definitely planning on it. I'll be sure to let you all know what I think after I do.
