After a winter's hibernation, Camdencast is back. Stacey joined me to run through some of the topics we've been saving up for the last three months. The Orioles did not give us much in the way of news, it turns out, but that doesn't stop a couple of fans like us.
We open with a big difference compared to last year: the crazed 82% of preseason prediction contest entrants who think the O's will win more games than the Yankees. Really? Yes, really! (If you haven't entered the contest yet, check out the form here.)
We're not quite so optimistic, in part because of some injury news, especially where Nick Markakis is concerned. It's hard for us to believe Brian Roberts could be healthy and good. And J.J. Hardy isn't hurt, but what if he has another season where he struggles at the plate?
On the other hand, don't be afraid to hope. A lot of our irrational excitement centers around Brian Matusz and Chris Davis (for Stacey) and Kevin Gausman (for me). Things look better heading into 2013 than they have for many years. Who are YOU most excited for? Tell us in the comments below!
Plus, find out the two most handsome Orioles in Stacey's eyes, why Mark is openly coveting a particular plaid fedora, and a whole lot more.
This episode is a little more than an hour in length and breaks down as follows:
Prediction contest: 2:00-6:00
Injuries to Markakis, Reimold, Roberts: 6:00-23:00
Irrational excitement for Matusz, Davis, Gausman: 23:00-36:00
Hope: 36:00-40:30
Hardy: 40:30-46:15
Lame Orioles promotions and ticketing: 46:15-61:00
Final thoughts: 61:00-66:36
