Sunday Bird Droppings

Some days, you're the bug.
Some days, you're the bug.

Recap: Baltimore vs. Philadelphia - Wire MLB - The Sacramento Bee
"J.J. Hardy registered two RBI for the O's. Baltimore starter Wei-Yin Chen was tagged for seven runs -- six earned -- on eight hits and two walks over 3 1/3 frames." All we want is a OBP above .310 or so, J.J. No need to get greedy.

School of Roch: Chen on Chen (O's lose 13-4)
"I felt OK today, but delivery-wise, they got my timing really well today," Chen said through his interpreter after allowing six earned runs (seven total) and eight hits in 3 1/3 innings against the Philadelphia Phillies." Say this about Mr. Chen - you will not get a litany of excuses after a bad outing.

Baltimore Orioles option Zach Britton, narrowing list for fifth starter | orioles.com: News
"I think you understand that you have some fierce competition, and guys have thrown better than me, plain and simple," said Britton, who posted a 6.10 ERA in five Grapefruit League games and allowed three earned runs over two innings against Team Spain on March 6." Yes, yes they have, Mr. Britton. They have most definitely thrown better than you.

Hendrickson back with O's after birth of daughter | orioles.com: News
"What's cool about it is a lot of guys have babies on this team, it brings us closer," Mark Hendrickson said. "I was even more excited because Diana Roberts told my wife that Brian, once he saw the pictures, was so excited for his [expectant] baby. And that's kind of neat, and I think brings us closer together as men, just because we are kind of going through the same stuff. So that's pretty cool." But, what is cooler than cool, hmm?

Nimble Competition At Baltimore Orioles Ballboy/Ballgirl Tryout | Only A Game
"About 120 applicants and onlookers lined up outside Oriole Park at Camden Yards on March 9th, hoping to get a job. Not just any job, though – a job as a ballboy or ballgirl with the Orioles for the 2013 season." First person account of the tryout process. Does our fearless correspondent get the gig? Find out!

Orioles Fans Choose Their Seats In Tag Day " CBS Baltimore
"This is a chance for fans to come out, bring the families and test out seats that they might want to purchase for the season. We’re doing full season plans, 29 game plans and 13 game plans. It’s really giving people a little taste of what they might be doing for the summer," said Orioles spokesperson Jay Moskowitz." He forgot to add, "Oh, and we get to stick it to the suckers dumb enough to buy season tickets over the winter. No vouchers for you!"

I don't think any current or former O's have a birthday today (at least I didn't recognize any of the names on B-R's list as former O's), but it is the birthday of social media gadlfy Dirk Hayhurst and somewhere in Milwaukee's spring training environs this evening, I'm guessing Corey Hart is wearing his sunglasses at night. Oh, and a few last clippings of the non-O's variety, if you'll excuse the indulgence.
