Baby Birds Go Boink

Brad Mills-US PRESSWIRE

DELMARVA: 2 KANNAPOLIS (WHITE SOX): 4

Parker Bridwell took the bump for the Shorebirds tonight. After struggling a bit through the 1st inning he began to take out his frustration on the worms which populate the Delmarva infield by inducing 8 ground outs over 5.2 IP while allowing 6 H, 1 BB, 3 R (1 ER), and K'ing 4. Former SS-turned-RP prospect Mychal Givens came on in relief and provide 1.1 IP of scoreless pitching with 0 H, 1 BB, and 1 K.

On the offensive ledger, Christian Walker with another multi-hit night; 2-4, w/ 1 BB and 1 K. Could see him earning a promotion to Frederick some time in May. Roderick Bernadina has also been swinging the stick rather effectively to start the season. He also went 2-4, w/ a triple and a K. Adrian Marin joined in the action as well with his own 2 hit effort. However, he did commit a throwing error on what looks to have been a relay throw to home.

FREDERICK: 2 WINSTON-SALEM (WHITE SOX): 5

Another promising pitching prospect took the bump for the Keys tonight, in the form of Eduardo Rodriguez. Like Mr. Bridwell, he struggled in the 1st inning, giving up a 2 run HR to the White Sox' best prospect, Courtney Hawkins, but then decided to burn up some worms in the infield. 10 ground outs to 2 fly outs complimented 4 strikeouts and zero walks over 6 IP. Unfortunately, the aforementioned Mr. Hawkins was ERod's daddy tonight, as he hit a second 2 run HR in his second at bat. ERod ended up yielding 9 hits, 5 runs (4 ER) over his 6 innings.

The offense was pretty much non-existent. My boy Brenden Webb went 0-3 with 1 K, but did draw 1 BB. Glynn Davis was 0-4 from the lead off spot.

BOWIE: 7 RICHMOND (GIANTS): 6

The offense was clickin for Bowie tonight, as they put up crooked numbers in both the 1st and 2nd innings. Xavier Avery went 3-4, w/ 1 BB and 2 runs scored. He led off the game with a line drive Double. Walked in the 2nd and went 1st to 3rd on a single to CF. Singled in the 4th via a line drive into LF. Bunted for a single in the 7th and advanced to 2B when the 1Bman failed to catch the ball. Speed kills. Ty Kelly with a ho-hum 1-4, w/ 1 BB, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored.

On the mound, strikeout artiste Clay Schrader pitched a clean 8th inning, striking out 2 swinging. d

Late note: Per Steve Melewski, (SP) Devin Jones has been promoted from Frederick to Bowie to take the rotation slot of the now DL'd Julio Rodriguez.

NORFOLK: 6 CHARLOTTE (WHITE SOX): 4

Not much exciting here. Zach Clark started and wasn't any particular great shakes over his 4.1 IP, tossing 92 pitches (54 strikes) while allowing 3 H, 3 BBs, 2 R (1 ER) and striking out 3.

Jonathan Schoop's offensive struggles continue, as he went 0-4, w/ 1 K.
