Around the Minors: 2013.04.04 (Opening Night!)

The minor league season got under way tonight. Except if the affiliate postponed. Chris Davis sure has been making it rain of late...

Norfolk's opener against Durham was postponed. So that's a bummer.

The Baysox lost to Harriburg, 4-3. Xavier Avery starts down a level in Bowie and went 0-4 with 2 strikeouts. Ty Kelly started the season on the right foot, going 1-3 with a double, a HBP and a K. Lew Ford went 2-4 with a double and a homer. Mike Wright gave up 1 ER in 4 IP on 5 hits and a walk, striking out 2 with a GB/FB of 6/2. Not so much prospect related, but Aaron Baker did go yard in the opener and the Baysox have a pitcher named Zech Zinicola. Zinicola is a California native and had one of those drug of abuse suspensions last year. HBGM don't care, I guess.

The Keys start tomorrow.

The Shorebirds won 4-3 over Hagerstown. Gregory Lorenzo 0-4 with a K and an assist and an error. Torsten Boss 1-4 with a K. Christian Walker went 0-2, leaving the game after apparently having something of an injured face per some guy on the internet. A guy who seemingly was easy to root for last year, Joel Hutter, went 2-4 with 2 triples. Adrian Marin, making the jump from the GCL, debuted tonight going 1-2 with a walk and a K. Rod Bernadina went 0-1 with a K, a sacrifice bunt, a sacrifice fly and an error. On the mound, Parker Bridwell gave up 1 ER in 5 IP on 4 hits, 2 walks and a wild pitch, striking out 4 with a GB/FB of 4/6. Matt Hobgood went 2 scoreless, yielding a hit and a walk.
