Brian Roberts to Disabled List with Ruptured Tendon, Yamaico Navarro Recalled

The MRI has spoken on the Brian Roberts injury suffered in Thursday's game against the Rays: a ruptured tendon in his knee, with a 2-4 week recovery period described as typical for the injury. That's a whole lot better than I would have guessed from the way he was grimacing as he was carried off the field without putting any weight at all on the leg.

Prior to Friday's home opener, the Orioles placed Roberts on the 15-day disabled list. The press release described the injury as a "right hamstring strain", which sounds a lot less painful than a ruptured knee tendon. Call it whatever you like, Roberts is out after three games and won't be back until he's well again. Maybe that will really be in the 2-4 week range.

Infielder Yamaico Navarro has been summoned from Norfolk as the injury replacement, so if you picked him in the Camden Chat preseason prediction contest, congratulations, you just got a point. Navarro, the Orioles would like you to know, had a .276/.417/.379 slash line in 29 spring training at-bats and hit .279/.366/.491 in 66 games for AAA Indianapolis last season.

I would have guessed that Alexi Casilla would take the starting job in Roberts' absence, but it's Ryan Flaherty who's in the starting lineup today. Remember that time he hit a home run in the playoffs? That was pretty cool.
