Around the Minors: 5/9/13

The Oriole farmhands go 1 for 3 on the night, with the Tides winning (again) and the Baysox and Shorebirds losing. Frederick was off today.

The Tides won 7-3, though Zach Britton would give up 3 ER in 4.1 IP on 5 hits and 4 walks, striking out 6 with a GB/FB of 6/1. It took him 96 pitches to get to one out in the fifth. Jonathan Schoop was moved up to second in the order and went 2-5 with a homer and two strikeouts. His homer came off former major leaguer/author Miguel Batista. LJ Hoes goes 0-2 with 3 walks (he now carries a .391 OBP if you were wondering). Russ Canzler goes 1-4 with a walk and a K.

Bowie lost 5-1. Henry Urrutia goes 0-4 with 2 Ks. Ty Kelly goes 1-4 with a double and an error. Xavier Avery goes 1-5 with a K and a SB. New knuckler Eddie Gamboa gave up 4 ER in 6 IP on 7 hits (1 HR) and a walk, striking out 4 with a GB/FB of 6/7. His ERA stands at 4.14.

Frederick DNP.

The Shorebirds lost 3-1. Matt Taylor gave up 2 ER in 5.1 IP on 7 hits and 4 walks, striking out 3 with a GB/FB of 10/1. Miguel Chalas (who you may recall was something of a sleeper last year) gave up an unearned run in 2.2 IP on 2 hits, striking out 1 and is now sporting a 1.64 ERA and a K/BB of 20/7 in 22 IP. Christian Walker goes 0-4. Joel Hutter goes 0-4 with a K and a sac fly. Adrian Marin goes 2-3 with a walk and a K. Gregory Lorenzo goes 0-3 with a K and his 14th stolen base.
