You can check back later this evening for a full recap once the Mother's Day festivities are over, but here is a quick recap on today's happenings.
The Orioles shut out the Twins 6-0 and while it would be a bit of embellishment to say that Wei-Yin Chen was cruising, he was pitching well and hadn't given up a run over five innings. Unfortunately something happened in the fifth inning and he left the mound holding his right side. He was diagnosed with a right oblique strain. The severity is currently unknown, but I think it's safe to say that Chen will be heading to the disabled list. That could end up being a huge blow for the O's.
As for the offense, the O's had three home runs today, one each by Chris Davis (11), Adam Jones (5), and Steve Pearce (2). For being one of their best starters, the Twins' Scott Diamond was not at the top of his game. He came into the game having walked three batters the entire season and he walked three batters today. Manny Machado had another big day, going 3-for-4 with a double. Davis had three RBI, J.J. Hardy and Nick Markakis each had two hits, and even backup catcher Chris Snyder had an RBI single (and threw out a runner trying to steal).
The win moves the Orioles to 23-15 and with a Red Sox loss and Yankees win they are now in sole possession of second place in the A.L. East.
