Norfolk 2, Durham (Rays) 3
After a very successful debut (and a not so successful long relief outing) Jake Petit made his second start for the Tides. I'm guessing he was on an extremely limited pitch count after his relief outing just two days ago, since he only tossed 40 pitches over 3 innings tonight. 4 hits (1 HR), 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 Error (on a pickoff attempt) and 3 ER are what he yielded, while striking out none. Of concern: Lefties went 3-5, w/ 2 doubles, 1 BB, and 1 HBP vs. the southpaw tonight.
On the offensive ledger, Trayvon Robinson and Travis Ishi(The Killer)kawa went yard off one of the Rays next wave of young Pitchers, Alex Colome. Ishi has been torching the ball of late, putting up a .385/.432/.769 with 6 2Bs and 3 HRs over his last 10 games. One-time über-prospect Brandon Wood logged a 2-4, w/ a double. Lil Jerome Hoes went 0-3, and Danny Valencia did not play.
Bowie 1, Trenton (Yankees) 6
Neither Rome nor Knuckleballers were built overnight. And so it goes with the Zach Clark Experience. 3.1 IP, 6H, 5BBs, 2 WPs, 2 Balks, 6R (5ER), 3 Ks.
XAvery and Ty Kelly went 0-8 at the top of the order, hence the but 1 run scored by the team as a whole. Caleb Joseph accounted for that 1 run, going yard for the 2nd game in a row. He also had 2 Passed Balls attributed to him though. Henry Urrutia went 0-3, w/ 1 BB, 2 Ks, and a GIDP.
Frederick 2, Salem (Red Sox) 3
A young -Joseph Gordon Levitt- Zach Davies took the hill for the Keys and was a bit of an exercise in duality. He brought swing-and-miss stuff against a rather impressive Salem squad, as evidenced by his 7 Ks (6 swinging) over 3.2 IP. But he also allowed a ton of baserunners (8, including 2 doubles and 1 home run) over those 3.2 IP. However, the damage was limited to but 1 run in spite of the bases being clogged for the bulk of his outing.
The crappy news from this game was that Nick Delmonico, recently returned from the D.L. (concussion symptoms) left the game in the 4th with an apparent hamstring injury. The injury occurred during/after he fielded a ball at 3B, as opposed to while running the bases. So hopefully it's not a major issue that results in him missing an extended period of time. He needs to start staying on the field for longer stretches of time. Prior to leaving, he was 0-2, w/ 1K. Christian Walker continues to acclimate to higher level pitching. He went 0-4, w/ 1K as the DH tonight. Brendan Webb went 1-4, w/ 1 SB.
Hickory @ Delmarva: Postponed (rain)
