Kevin Gausman to make major-league debut Thursday, per FoxSports.com

The 2012 draft pick will make his ML debut with just 13 minor league games under his belt.

Per Jon Paul Morosi at FOX Sports, hot prospect Kevin Gausman will make his major-league debut this Thursday for the Orioles.

It has been assumed for some time that Gausman would make his debut sometime this season, but this seems really early by any measure. We've heard fans clamoring for him to take a spot in the rotation but not an inkling from any media that it could actually happen until now.

Gausman, the O's first round draft pick in 2012, pitched five games at the end of the 2012 season and has made eight starts this year for the AA Bowie Baysox. He has pitched 46 1/3 innings to a 3.11 ERA and has racked up 49 strikeouts to just 5 walks.

If you're like me, you're probably excited about this news but also a little terrified. I have no idea what to expect from Gausman and the promotion seems totally out of left field. But, per the scouts who have seen him pitch, he has major-league ready stuff. I guess we'll all find out if that's true together.

Update: Both Dan Connolly and Eddie Encina from the Baltimore Sun have confirmed that Gausman will indeed start on Thursday.
